Barnet boss Martin Allen must choose from an injury ravaged squad ahead of their trip to Newport County on Saturday.

Centre-back Michael Nelson is still recovering from a dislocated shoulder while forward Michael Gash remains out with the groin injury he suffered against Carlisle.

Allen saw his options reduced even further after a stalemate with Stevenage last weekend as both Sam Togwell and Gavin Hoyte joined the treatment table.

Togwell is a major doubt for the League Two clash with a foot injury and so is full-back Hoyte with a knee issue.

However, top-scorer John Akinde should be passed fit while sacked former Leicester City full-back James Pearson could make his debut for the club.

Passed fit: John Akinde

Allen revealed that the he instructed the rest of the squad to take it easy this week.

He told “We had to rest the players after last weekend.

“We’ve got quite a few injuries from the Stevenage game.

“The other players that are left over have had a low key, low maintenance week.

“It’s been a case of making sure that they don’t get injured, because we’re down to twelve fit players.

“It’s been a nice week with no pressure, no hassle and no team preparation.

“The main work has been done in the medical room with Luigi, trying to get them fit for next week."
