BARNET will be hitting the training ground hard this week in a bid to cut out their defensive errors.

The Bees stretched their winless streak to five matches following a 2-1 home loss to Macclesfield Town on Tuesday evening.

Marciano Mengerink missed an early penalty for Barnet and Macclesfield took full advantage as a Connor Jennings double gave Town the lead going into the break.

Mauro Vilhete scored with 16 minutes to play but this proved to be scant consolation for the Bees on a disappointing night at the Hive.

Bees head coach Edgar Davids felt it was an improvement on their weekend showing but says he will be working his boys hard in a bid to stop the rot.

He said: “It’s sad because today, I saw a lot of heart and great intentions. Second half, they didn’t have anything there, and we only scored one goal.

“Absolutely [it was an improvement on their loss to Alfreton]. On Saturday we didn’t play for one hour, but today we maybe could have got a draw.

“It’s difficult to keep conceding from set-pieces; it means you’re not as sharp as you need to be. We will be working on stopping this in training and we also have to work on stopping individual errors.”

Tuesday night also saw Davids make his return to the Bees line-up and the Dutchman says he came through the clash unscathed.

“I felt fine," he added.

“Obviously you want to play, but you want the team to develop. Their young lads, who need to grow and perform. We need to take them to a different level.”
