Barnet will be looking to make first place their own when they travel to Halifax Town tomorrow night.

The Bees top the table on goal difference thanks to a 2-1 victory at Eastleigh, who enjoyed a four game unbeaten run, on Saturday as Bristol Rovers could only draw with the Shaymen.

And head coach Martin Allen was delighted with the result, although he will be anxious to ensure his men don’t relinquish their hold on first spot.

“There have been no celebrations, no joyous champagne thrown around the dressing room,” said Allen.

“We were not going to win the league today and we were not going to lose the league today. It is another game, three points and now we have to go up north on Tuesday.”

The Barnet manager was also keen to reiterate his faith in his group of players – ensuring they will have the chance to help the Bees finish in first place, starting with Tuesday night’s encounter at Halifax.

“I spoke to the players on Monday morning (after the Forest Green Rovers game)and told them that they are staying and that they are all going to do the job; told them that we are all in it together and reminded them how good they have been for months.”

“These players got us to the top of the league and I think that all these players deserve the opportunity to carry on the job that we started back in July.”

Saturday’s victory was thanks to goals from Curtis Weston and John Akinde in either half, although a late penalty from Ben Strevens ensured a nervy ending.

But Allen will be confident that his players will pull off another 'proper Barnet' performance in Yorkshire on Tuesday night.

“We are all a pretty humble group of lads. The Chairman has made money available but it would disrupt our spirit of what is in our dressing room.”

“We aren’t Man City and we aren’t Chelsea. It is something a bit different and something pretty special, and god bless them after a tricky couple of months that was back to a proper Barnet performance.”
