Martin Allen is still hopeful of persuading Curtis Weston his future lies with Barnet.

The Bees boss has been in talks with the former Millwall, Leeds, Swindon and Gillingham midfielder over a new deal for a few weeks now.

But while Allen has chosen not to offer new terms to fellow midfielder Mark Byrne, he is hoping Weston will still be a part of his plans next season.

Allen said: “Curtis Weston we are still talking to, and will see if we can sort something out as he is a good player.

On his way: Mark Byrne in action for Barnet last season

“Mark Byrne did a great job for Barnet, but once we signed Dan Bradley we couldn't take on Mark too. He has a major part of the team here and we will do all we can to get him a new club.”

Bradley, who joined from Alfreton, was one of Allen's first two captures of the summer, along with young Gillingham defender Sam Muggleton, who both pitched up at The Hive on Monday.

Allen added: “Dan is a young attacking midfielder who is hungry and a powerful character. I saw him play against Grimsby, who made the play-offs, ans he was immense.

“Sam is just 18 and can improve physically and technically, but has got a good work ethic. He also has a long throw, which can be a real asset, and as a free transfer, he represented a good bit of business.”
