Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has confirmed he has spoken privately with Baba Rahman after hauling him off at Southampton.

The Ghana international made a crucial mistake that led to Shane Long opening the scoring at the end of the first 45 minutes.

Rahman had his head in his hands in the St Mary’s dressing room during the interval and was consoled by team mates after making the error.

Kenedy was thrown on for the second period as the Blues turned the tables thanks to goals from Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic.

“We have slightly talked to him,” Hiddink admitted.

“Of course, you saw the pictures where he was putting his shirt over his face.

Southampton 1-2 Chelsea in pictures:

“In half time he was sitting in the dressing room and before I announced it he was down, so that’s why we made a change.

"He has to recover but you cannot always wait. We need every one. He did some decent play in the recent games but we like to be critical."

Meanwhile, Alexandre Pato could finally make his Chelsea debut when the Blues visit Norwich City on Tuesday night.

The striker agreed a season-long loan move from Corinthians at the end of January but is yet to feature under boss Hiddink.

And while acknowledging Pato is nowhere near ready to play the full 90 minutes, Hiddink says he will consider giving him his first run out tomorrow.

Captain John Terry has been running at the club’s training ground and will also be given a late fitness test before being completely ruled out of the Canaries clash.
