Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects Diego Costa to bring some fight to Emirates when Chelsea drop in for a London derby on Sunday.

The Spanish international striker clashed with Gabriel and Laurent Koscielny when the two sides met in stormy affair back in September.

Gabriel was sent off for his role in the battle but the decision was later overturned on appeal while Costa was slapped with a three-game retrospective ban for raising his hands.

Costa suffered a bruised tibia in the weekend draw with Everton but is expected to shrug off the injury to travel to the north of the capital.

Wenger knows what to expect from the fiery forward should he make Guus Hiddink’s starting XI on derby day.

He said: “We have to be prepared for a battle because Costa gives you a fight. After that, it's down to the referee.

“We are convinced that our points and our record are linked to our discipline. On the day we suffered because we were a bit unlucky with the decision of the referee.

“I believe we have a very strong record on the disciplinary front in the Premier League and we want to maintain it.”

Mesut Özil will return from a toe injury for the gunners and Wenger also hopes Alexis Sánchez can feature from the bench having missed the past seven weeks with a hamstring problem.

He added: “The good news is that Özil certainly will be available and, for Sánchez, the next two days will be decisive though, this time, I think he will make it for selection.

“Coquelin is also back in full training, ahead of schedule, and Welbeck will be in full training next week. So those are positive news.

“Tomas Rosicky I think will play for the under-21s on Friday. A few players are coming back. It was important we showed we could cope without these players, and had that collective spirit and unity, but it will ensure we have more variety now.

“The forwards give you goalscoring and, as well, I think sometimes in games, when you have 70 minutes gone and you have a strong bench, it gives you a big chance to win the game.

“ That variety of problems you can give to the opponent is very important.”
