Andreas Bjelland opened his Brentford account but was frank enough to admit that his goal counted for nothing.

The Dane created history after his header in the 4-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest was given via goal-line technology.

But, with the Bees leaving the contest with nothing, the centre back felt he couldn't use his goal for anything.

He said: “Of course not. I can't really use it for anything right now. We lost the game. We scored three goals at home so we should have won the game.”

Brentford appeared to have the game under full control in the first half and took the lead through John Egan.

However, as has often happened with the Bees they had a bad spell and Forest scored three times with Bjelland admitting they should have kept things tight until the break.

“I don't know. I think in the first half we were pretty much in control up to 40 minutes. We gave a stupid free kick away.

“It was a really good strike. The second one hit the post and bounced to them. It's not good enough. We had full control and should have kept them out.”

The Bees conceded a second goal within 10 minutes of the first on 12 occasions last season and Bjelland knows his side have to be a bit smarter when it comes to keeping teams out.

He explained: “I don't know if it's a concern. They played a risky game going man to man. If we get the first goal and play it smarter, we should have done it.

“We should have been cleverer. They won and did a better job than we did.”

There was one positive for the Dane in the fact he started both Championship games this season after falling down the pecking order last term.

He admitted: “My focus was on pre-season for me was to get into the games and not get stupid injuries. I maintained that. Pre-season has been good for me.

“Today, when you let in four goals you can't say you played a good game. It wasn't good enough and we can bounce back on Tuesday.”
