ALAN Bennett has returned to Brentford after Ipswich recalled defender Tommy Smith from his loan spell at Griffin Park.

The New Zealand World Cup hopeful was due to be with the Bees until April 7, but Tractor Boys boss Roy Keane has activated a 24-hour recall clause to bring him back to Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Bennett's loan at Wycombe Wanderers wasn't expected to end until tomorrow, but boss Andy Scott needs cover at centre-half.

Keane said: "Tommy came back to train with us one day last week.

"So it was always my intention to have him back soon. He's had a run of games under his belt and is looking sharp."
