AFC Wimbledon must try and cash in on Accrington Stanley’s disappointment in the first leg of the League Two play-off semi-final, according to Dannie Bulman.

Stanley had the promotion champagne chilling nicely entering stoppage time on the final day, only for rivals Bristol Rovers to score a winner against Dagenham & Redbridge and snatch the last automatic spot from their grasp.

Veteran Dons midfielder Bulman believes the experience is the equivalent to running a marathon only to be confronted with a sprint finish for a medal – a psychologically tough task.

“It is massively emotionally difficult," the midfielder said of the effect of missing out on automatic promotion on the final day.

“It is a kick in the you know whats because you have played 46 games to get there and probably been in the top three or in and around it with the objective to get promoted. You can see the finish line and all of a sudden someone has put another 100 yards on it.

“It’s like oh for God’s sake. It is almost like running in syrup.”

The first leg of the playoff kicks off at Kingsmeadow on Saturday at 7:30pm with the return leg next Wednesday at the Crown Ground.
