AFC Wimbledon will not stand in Neal Ardley's way if a club higher in the football pyramid comes in for him.

Dons chief executive Erik Samuelson, naturally, wants the bright young manager to remain with the club and guide them up through the divisions.

But, money talks in football and were a club to express an interest in Ardley, who has written his name into the club's folklore after guiding the Dons to League One, the club will not stand in his way.

Samuelson said: “Neal understands the importance of longevity. I think he's eighth of ninth in the league table.

“We're on a journey and we'll go a long way and we'd love it to be with him. He's a fine manager and someone may lure him away.

“In which case, I'll follow his career with interest but we want him to be a massive success with us.”

Ardley has also benefitted from the role Steven Sylvester has played this season.

The psychologist, who is now back with Middlesex, has spent time with the Dons with Lyle Taylor crediting him for his goalscoring spree.

Samuelson added: “When we did the interviews for Neal and then Terry Brown we had someone who knew about football in with us. We had John Faulkner in then.

“When we did Neal we had Dave Bassett and he brought Steven along. He gave us his commentary on each of the candidates and their strengths and development needs.

“Earlier last season, Neal said he needed someone to talk to, he was the obvious man. He's sucked into it as people do.

“He's part of the team. If we can find the money we'll continue to use him. He's been very helpful.”
