Neal Ardley wants to sign a replacement for injured Dons midfielder Peter Sweeney.

Sweeney suffered a broken foot in training last Thursday and is facing up to eight weeks on the treatment table with the problem.

It leaves Ardley without one of his most consistent performers in the middle of the park and Sammy Moore as his only recognised central midfielder.

Ardley said: “With what little money we've got, we've got some pressing targets and we're working really hard. We lost Peter Sweeney on Thursday, he's broken his foot again in the same place as last season. So we've got positions we need to be strong in.

“Me and Simon Bassey must speak to each other about 20 times a day at the moment looking at different options. I think we might as well move our wives in together for a week or so while we sort it all out!”

A central defender is also believed to feature on Ardley’s shopping list, with Rhys Weston having been loaned out to Skrill South outfit Sutton United for a month.

The former Cardiff City defender, who can play centre-back or right back, has made eight appearances for AFC Wimbledon this season since signing in the summer.

But with Dons having switched formation recently to play three centre-halves, Ardley needs cover for Alan Bennett, Andy Frampton and Will Antwi.
