Adebayo Akinfenwa will put his hand up to take a penalty if required as AFC Wimbledon prepare to take on Plymouth in the League Two play-off final.

The Beast has suffered play-off heartache with both Northampton and Swansea City in the past and missed a spot-kick for the Swans in their League One final against Barnsley in 2006.

And he will be keen to put those demons to bed if the chance arises, although he hopes he'll be celebrating after 90 minutes.

He said: “I'd be happy to take one. I need to bury the demons where I put the ball over the bar. I need to put the demons to be bed. I'd be up for it but I want it done in 90 minutes.”

The Dons have a mix of youth and experience in their squad and Akinfenwa will be calling on the more youthful members of the team to enjoy it and not let the occasion overwhelm them.

He said: “We've got a really good balance between youth and experience and it's been the catalyst. We'll be going into the final confident that if we do what we've done we should be okay.

“You need to enjoy it. You can easily get tense. It comes and it goes. For me, I'm enjoying it. When I get there I'm looking to enjoy it, good bad or indifferent.

“You walk out and you're playing the occasion and not the game. I'll tell the players to play the game, not the occasion.

“The world might be watching but it's another game. It's a big game but it's just another game.”

To mark the League Two play-off final, the club are opening a pop-up shop in Wimbledon that will help build the atmosphere and general air of excitement. The pop-up shop, which will be selling official merchandise for the game, will be located on the ground floor of Centre Court Shopping Centre, and will be open every day from Thursday until Sunday.
