AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has tasked his players with hitting the 60-point mark in League Two this season.

Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Exeter City moved the Dons up to 11th in the table and leaves them 10 points shy of Southend in the final play-off position.

Wimbledon have already racked up 35 points this term but Ardley wants to almost double that total in order to avoid the final-day relegation dogfight drama of last season.

He said: “We’re going to target 60 points. Obviously we need to get to 54 first but then we’re going to try and get to 60. We got 54 and 53 in our first two seasons and flirted with relegation. If we can not be in that relegation battle, get that 60 points, as well as make progress behind the scenes then I think it’s good.

“Have I found a winning formula yet? No. I’m trying. I’m trying hard. I’m trying to make us a threat, throwing on two and three forwards in some cases and playing a system that puts us on the front-foot but of course there’s teething problems.

“It’s not just hoof it football. I don’t want to coach that and I don’t want to preach that. I didn’t enjoy watching us last season.”

There is no rest for the Dons who face three games in seven days, with part two of the trilogy coming tomorrow night at Kingsmeadow when Hartlepool come to town.
