AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley says his side have improved greatly since their inaugural meeting with arch-rivals MK Dons.

The two Dons will face off for the second time in the clubs' histories in the Capital One Cup tonight having been pitted against each other in the 2012-13 FA Cup.

On that occasion, Ardley had been in the job barely two months, and a last-minute winner denied AFC Wimbledon a famous upset and a berth in the third round.

"That team I took over at that period was a relegation team," Ardley said, insisting there was no comparison between the two sides he's had at his disposal.

"This team is not that. We're a better team, though they may be better since then as well."

Milton Keynes recovered from a 2-0 deficit to beat Gillingham 4-2 in League One on the opening day and Ardley admitted it would not be an easy task to get a result.

He added: "They're a league above us and are a better team than us. We'll go there with a good game plan and try our best to win that game and send our fans home happy.

"We'll see who's fit, who's got niggles and then sit down and start walking through what we're going to do. At 7.45pm on Tuesday night we'll be doing absolutely everything we can to put a smile on our fans' faces."

Captain Alan Bennett remains a doubt for the trip to Buckinghamshire although he did take part in training yesterday.

The centre-back was stretchered off towards the end of Saturday’s draw against Shrewsbury and he required stitches after suffering a head wound following a clash of heads.

There will be at least one change in the back four though with on-loan Gillingham centre-back Adam Barrett ineligible to play in the competition.
