ACTON'S Joe Monks was part of the Middlesex and Home Counties Blind FC team that have strengthened their position in the National Blind League.

Monks played a pivotal role in goal, keeping two clean sheets and only conceding two goals in four matches that were played back-to-back due to delays.

A hard earned 0-0 draw against Sporting Club Albion set the mood for the rest of the day, Monks in particular impressing, which was built upon when they beat Everton 2-0, via a Michael Smith brace.

But Middlesex's hard work was undone in 1-0 defeats by Leicestershire and Worcester.

Former England International Darren Cooke shone as he scored in Leicestershire's game while current England international Keryn Seal broke Middlesex hearts with a last minute winner that gave Worcester the win.

But other results played into Middlesex's favour who now sit three points clear in fourth ahead of Everton.

The final round of games are to be played on the March 26.
