DEFENDER Anthony Acheampong has revealed his pride at playing for Barnet under Dutch legend Edgar Davids.
Acheampong signed for the club over the summer after impressing at the heart of Welling’s title-winning defence in the Blue Square South last season.
And the 23-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Cardiff City, is enjoying life at The Hive under the former Champions League winner.
“It’s great,” he said. “A man with his experience and his knowledge and he was such a quality player.
“Now it’s transpiring that he is also a quality manager as well – I’m just enjoying every minute under him and long may I continue under him as well.”
Acheampong, one of Barnet’s stand-out performers in pre-season, was forced to miss the start of the campaign due to injury.
He has since returned to the fold after regaining full fitness and revealed he is raring to go as part of a Bees squad that is buzzing at the moment.
“My fitness is good,” he said. “I’ve been working hard with Pete (Friar) the physio and he’s helped get me back to full fitness. I’ve also been training hard by myself and now I’m ready to play games and show what I can do.
“The confidence in the squad is flying high and we just hope that we can keep it going and rack up as many points as we can in the forthcoming games.”
The towering centre-back has developed a good understanding with defensive partner David Stephens and he hopes the pair’s blossoming relationship is a lasting one.
“It’s been great,” he said. “I’ve been welcomed to the club really well and he’s helped me settle in a bit but it’s been good just to talk to him on and off the field.
“I think we have got a good relationship and long may it continue.”
Barnet climbed to the summit of the Conference Premier over the bank holiday weekend following a 1-1 draw with Nuneaton and a convincing 3-0 win over nine-man Braintree Town.
