West London girl power flexed its muscles this week with a cup final win and a deserved league runner’s up spot.

Old Actonians edged London Corinthians 1-0 to lift the London & South East League Cup Final at Carshalton, and in their first season Larkspur Rovers from Northolt finished second in the Capital Girls League.

Larkspur hit 83 goals along the way, winning 13 of their 15 league games, while the Under 11’s are currently in runners-up position with two to play.

Coach James Davies said: “It’s a tremendous achievement knowing many of the girls have never played competitive football before.”

OA’s turned fortune on its head when they reversed last week’s league defeat to Corinthians, courtesy of the game’s only goal deep into the second half.

Carla Williams’s shot looping shot got the slightest of deflections from Linda Fox to beat the keeper and claim the trophy.

Not this time: Cup winners Hanwell United were left crying in their beer

Meanwhile, Newton City ended the campaign on a high with an impressive win over neighbours Hanwell United in men’s Chiswick & District League One.

Two goals each from Clive Martin and Jermaine Abrams helped seal a 6-1 victory against the Division One cup winners, who slumped to a third-straight defeat.

Ross Ahir had given Hanwell the lead midway through the first half, but that's as good as it got for the visitors.

Martin and Abrams gave City a 2-1 lead at the break before adding one more each in the final 20 minutes as they ran out easy winners.

Karl Denny and Paul Cook were also on target for the hosts, while Robert Ennis starred.
