Two late goals cost Hillingdon Borough any chance of getting something out of an end to end clash at Thamesmead Town.Boro trailed at half-time but had plenty of chances to equalise, as did Thamesmead to extend their lead, until Rikki Cable took charge for the hosts.

First he made it 2-0 and after Alec Gediking pulled one back Cable netted a brilliant clincher for Thames-mead, with all three of thosegoals coming in a breathless final two minutes of normal time.

Boro survived an early onslaught when Thamesmead failed to hit the target with their best efforts and as they got into the game, Boro also went close.

Gerald Kelly watched as his lob was cleared off the line, Ali Harris had two shots in quick succession, one off-target and the other which brought a flying save from Tony Kessell.

At the other end Ben Harris also made some good stops, one in particular from Cable and Pierre St Hillaire also cleared off the Boro line, but a minute from the break a free kick was needlessly conceded close to the edge of the box and Scot Mul-holland smashed his shot through the defensive wall and into the net.

It was the same story in the second half as both sides pushed forward and Jey Silva shot over from a free kick, Kelly had a fierce shot tipped over and Sam Warrell forced two saves from Kessell as Boro piled on the pressure.

It then turned into the Cable show. Following a display of incredible petulance when he smashed the ball out of the ground following an offside decision, the referee chased him to the dugouts to show him a yellow card. The Thamesmead striker then punished a defensive mix up by drilling home from close range and after Gediking halved the deficit, also from close in, Cable added a superb third for the hosts.

He beat four defenders on a mazy run and then planted the ball into an empty net to leave Boro second from bottom.
