Joey Barton has been told to clean up his act when it comes to self discipline.

Boss Harry Redknapp is not impressed with the midfielder’s 10 yellow cards that sees him out of the reckoning to face Charlton tomorrow, and Leeds next week.

The manager admits he has plenty willing to take Barton’s place, but rues the absence of a key player who picked up card number 10 in the 3-1 home defeat to Reading on Sunday.

He said: “It’s a lot bookings isn’t it? He’s got to be more careful because he’s an important player, and there are lots like him in the League who don’t pick up bookings.”

Rangers are missing Andy Johnson (ankle), Charlie Austin and Matt Phillips that partially explains why they have only picked up one point out of the last nine, according to Harry.

“If you took three or four players out of other sides at the top like Ings and Vokes at Burnley, they would suffer," he offered.

“We’ve got one or two knocks, but we’ve got the likes of Tom Carroll, JJ (Jermaine Jenas) and Karl Henry who can play where Joey does in midfield.”
