Martin Allen is looking forward to returning to Fratton Park this weekend but insists it will be business as usual for the Bees.

It will be a trip down memory lane for the Barnet manager who spent two years at Portsmouth as a player and captain, but claims there will be no lingering emotions.

He said: “Once we get onto the bus on Saturday morning, and once the game gets going, it’ll be all guns blazing.”

Barnet only have one win from their six opening games but the Bees gaffer is pleased with how his side have performed and is confident that the results will come.

Allen said: “We played very well last weekend and got nothing.

“Of course there are some things that we could have done better, but the overall passion, desire, and general play from our team has been good.

“There is always room for improvement - we just need to improve in a few little areas, keep believing in our players and we can do well.”

Allen knows that a trip to Portsmouth will prove a tough fixture, especially since Pompey are still undefeated this term.

The Bees chief said: “They’ve virtually rebuilt and brought in a whole new team, recruiting from the lower leagues.

“They’ve got a fantastic manager in Paul Cook.

“He won the championship in League Two with Chesterfield and you must be a good manager to win a championship of course.”

Barnet will be without Graham Stack, Kevin Lisbie and Shaun Batt for the journey but the rest of the squad is fully fit.
