Dave Stephens hopes Gary Waddock will be another experienced head who can help Barnet back into the Football League.

Former QPR, Wycombe and Aldershot boss Waddock has been helping out at The Hive since being sacked by Oxford United last month.

Centre back Stephens believes, with Waddock and Bees boss Martin Allen both having promotions on their CVs, Barnet have the perfect pairing for a Conference title challenge.

“I would say 100 per cent that promotion is our aim,” said the former former Welsh U21 international, who has also featured for Norwich City, Lincoln City and Hibernian.

Boss: Gary Waddock during his time at QPR's helm

“The gaffer done it will Gillingham, and we have also got Gary Waddock coaching us, who won promotion with Aldershot, so we have to look to replicate that.

“A lack of experience and know how possibly cost us last season, and is what we were lacking, but we have brought plenty of that in this summer, and hopefully it will be the finishing touch.

“Aside from that, we are all fit and looking to take the fight to other teams. It was a good work out against Wycombe (in Saturday's 1-0 defeat) and we were unlucky not to get a result.”
