MIDDLESEX PREMIER LEAGUE DIVISION THREE
Friends United 175-3
Neasden 170 all out
Friends United won by seven wickets
FRIENDS United kept their promotion charge alive thanks to some excellent batting by Nirmal Ramgi and Jalpesh Vijay.
The dynamic duo steered the home side to victory with a fine performance at the crease, in which they passed the Neasden total with seven wickets to spare.
Friends captain Piyush Vanraj won the toss in overcast conditions, and with rain predicted, he decided to bowl first.
Neasden’s batsmen started well and scored a useful 31 in the first nine overs without losing a wicket.
By the 10th over, Piyush decided changes were necessary and Jalpesh Vijay took a brace of wickets in four overs to dent Neasden’s confidence.
Some good hitting in middle overs meant Neasden looked like breaching the 200 barrier. However, Ramesh Magan took three wickets to stem the flow and the away side were all out for 170.
After the break, Friends United’s innings began well with 20 runs coming in the first two overs.
Jigar Vassantlal lost his wicket in the second but an excellent 50-run partnership between Ramgi and Ramesh Magan kept the target within sight.
Magan losing his wicket to a low delivery could have spelled disaster for the hosts. But Vijay (71) and Ramgi (45 not out) turned on the style to see Friends to victory and keep them second in the standings.
