TOBY Roland Jones will not return to the Middlesex pace attack until the end of the month at the earliest.

That was the news this week from Director of Cricket Angus Fraser on the latest injury to be suffered by his highly-rated young pace bowler.

Fraser confirmed the 24-year-old, who developed a foot problem in the recent win over Worcester, was back in light training, but would not travel with the team for next week’s County Championship clash with reigning champions Lancashire.

“Toby has some soft tissue damage, so the problem is tendon related rather than being a stress fracture or anything like that.

“He has started running again this week, but he is not in the frame for the match at Liverpool next week with Lancashire.

We are hopeful he will be fit for the County Championship game with Sussex at Lord’s (May 30).

The foot problem is the latest setback for TRJ as he battles to establish himself in the Seaxes’ spearhead.

The former Hampton School pupil enjoyed an excellent debut season in 2010 taking 36 wickets at an average of 19.

However, last season that figure dropped to 22 as he was plagued by shin splint trouble.
