MIDDLESEX CHAMPIONSHIP SECOND XI DIVISION ONE

MTSSC seconds 244 all out

Birbeck College seconds 132 all out

MTSSC won by 112 runs

MANPREET Sidhu smashed his first century of the season to blast MTSSC seconds to victory at the weekend.

Sidhu’s red-hot 100 put MTSSC in the driving seat and they got the job done with the ball to close out the match and move further away from the drop zone.

Birkbeck College won the toss and put MTTSC to bat on a green wicket.

Despite losing one early wicket, MTSSC batsmen Sidhu and Yogi Raithatha were in no mood to throw away theirs.

They put on an 80 run partnership before Raithatha departed for a well made 58 as Birbeck stole two quick wickets.

But MTSSC’s elegant left-hander Vijith Vignarajah steadied the ship with a rapid 40 and Sidhu accumulating runs all the time.

Sidhu reached his 100 to steer MTSSC to a total of 244.

Following tea, MTSSC started off proceedings with Naveed Ali and Kalaharan Manoharan leading the attack. Birkbeck sped along to 72 runs in 12 overs.

Skipper Kalaharan claimed the college opener and an excellent piece of fielding by centurion Sidhu, which caught Hussain well short of his crease, gave MTSSC a crucial breakthrough

The last wicket pair put up a fight and with only two overs to go it was left to vice captain Raithatha to finish the job for MTSSC.

MTSSC firsts slumped to a 131 defeat to Birbeck’s first string.
