MIDDLESEX COUNTY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Ealing 173 all out
Eastcote won by one wicket
EASTCOTE sprung a huge upset against Premier Division title hopefuls Ealing on Saturday.
The division’s bottom club surprised everyone by picking up their first win of the campaign to put a dent in second-placed Ealing’s push for silverware.
Eastcote won the toss and decided to bowl and were perhaps regretting their choice when Ahmad Elech (102) smashed a stunning century that included 13 fours and a six for the hosts.
But following his departure, Jehan Jeffrie (5-38) turned up the heat with the ball and went on to claim a superb fifer as he tore through Ealing’s middle order.
Ealing were dismissed for 173 but it still looked a tough task for a team that had failed to claim a victory from 11 previous attempts.
That woeful run looked set to continue when opener Will Van de Spar was out for a duck off the bowling of Ishan Ratnayake.
But Phil Costard’s steady 44 got things back on track and Eastcote looked solid as they carefully chipped away at the target.
It threatened to fall apart towards the end but Jeffrie (2 not out) and Palash Joshi (15 not out) edged them over the line for a shock victory.
Elsewhere, Uxbridge’s 88-run triumph over Harrow St Mary’s earned them 10 points in Division Two and struggling Ickenham came away empty-handed as they lost to North Middlesex.
