MIDDLESEX CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE
Old Actonians 208 all out
MTSSC 181 all out
MTSSC lost by 27 runs
MTSSC remain top of Middlesex Championship Division One despite a defeat at Old Actonians on Saturday.
In a league table where the top-four are now separated by just one point, the 27-run defeat will hurt, especially after bowling their hosts out for 208.
Captain Abdul Hamza (3-46) removed the OA top three cheaply, but a fantastically long vigil from OA’s number four Cameron French (85) ensured they scrambled their way to 208 all out from 50 overs.
Hamza would have been disappointed that his side were not a little more cutthroat, as they had their hosts on the ropes, and let them creep to a competitive total.
The irked MTSSC skipper’s fears were justified as their response never gathered any momentum.
When opener Niro Sritharan (39) was bowled early on, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, without any real positive intent shown from the table toppers.
The only other notable resistance came from number eight Kavi Kannathasan (35), who was left with too much to do against the OA opening pair, who shared eight wickets between themselves from a combined 39 overs.
MTSSC were eventually dismissed for 181 after 48 overs, with the difference between the two sides the one big score from French, the OA hero.
Meanwhile, West Harrow recorded a five-wicket win over Kay Plus in Division Three.
