KENTON came within a whisker of claiming 10 points away to promotion rivals Uxbridge on Saturday yet in the end left with just a solitary point.

Having put Kenton in to bat Uxbridge's opening attack immediate-ly found their line and length and opener Schopun Jooma was soon caught behind without scoring.

Sachin Patel looked in fine form and made his way to 25 before he too was sent packing to leave Kenton 53 for 3.

Kenton's middle order then needed to consolidate and, although Narendra Patel made a gutsy 34, wickets continued to fall to the wily spin of Graham Lines (4-28).

When Mark Sweeney was eighth out with only 126 on the board things were looking very bleak for Kenton.

However, Moshin Zubair played a fine unbeaten cameo of 27 and together with David Sweeney (14) added 30 for the ninth wicket as Kenton were finally all out for a competitive yet below par 164 from 55 overs.

Uxbridge openers Andre Jason (24) and Nick Hardy (20) were able to score freely in reply as they punished some loose offerings from the new ball bowlers.

With just seven overs on the board the score had raced to 40-0.

After changing ends Narendra Patel (2-31) found some rhythm and soon accounted for both openers.

Sami Haider started to bamboozle the batsmen with his variations and Kenton fought their way back into the game as Uxbridge stumbled to 52 for 3. With more than six an over needed Uxbridge attempted to accelerate, however Sweeney (3-21) and Haider (3-39) proved to be too shrewd for them as a flurry of wickets ensued.

The game seemed to be within Kenton's grasp at 123 for 8 from 40 overs with Uxbridge now looking to reach the four point target of 136.

Some big hitting from Rajesh Shah (21) meant Uxbridge needed only three from the last over to take the lion's share of the points.

With just a single needed Shah holed out to Jooma on the boundary leaving Kenton one wicket from victory.

A loud and confident lbw appeal went up from the penultimate ball, but it was not to be and, from the last ball, Uxbridge managed to scrape a single to take the winning draw.
