MIDDLESEX COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
Harrow St Mary’s 194 all out
Losing draw for Harrow St Mary’s
HARROW St Mary’s held on for a share of the spoils against Brentham at the weekend.
The Saints knocked up 194 with the bat and kept their opponents at bay in the chase to deny them an outright victory by just 10 runs in this mid-table Division Two clash.
Having bowled out HSM for 61 when they met back in May, Brentham won the toss and put the visitors in to bat first.
Still leading from the front, Gary Pettet opened with Ajay Soni and Saints did not disappoint the scriptwriters when Soni was caught behind in the second over with nothing on the board.
Kunj Thakkar joined Pettet and they played patiently before he too went, caught in the gully, and was replaced by Tom Pettet with the score on just 21.
Brentham’s bowlers were not giving anything away and it was left to Pettet senior to nudge the ball for singles. For the second consecutive week, his patience paid off and he reached his 50, only to be bowled in the next over.
The fourth to fall was Tom Pettet, lbw for 28, soon followed by Sam Blennerhassett, who was then given caught behind in the 37th.
Lakmal Kasthuri was next to go, needlessly run out and it was 135-6 off 40 and the net was closing in on the away side.
Harmeet Singh came in to salvage the innings, finishing on 41, as HSM ended with a respectable 194.
HSM nearly provided an instant response, but a difficult catch was dropped by Blennerhassett, although they did claim an early wicket through Singh.
Haran Dharmaraja’s bowling provided the spark for the next wicket and they continued to tumble at regular intervals to leave the score at 63-5 before the hosts got things back on track.
Brentham opener Tom Brandreth was still there and produced a fluid innings, but his side ran out of overs and fell 10 runs short of the winning target, on 185-8.
Elsewhere, there was a win for HSM seconds against MTSSC and a winning draw for the thirds against Twickenham.
