MOURNERS packed Holy Trinity Church in Northwood on Monday afternoon to pay their respects to a dedicated and talented cricketer.

Raj Latchman a stalwart of Northwood Cricket Club, died in his sleep during the early hours of Sunday, September 13 aged just 29.

He was sleeping overnight in the club pavilion to avoid the return journey to Leytonstone between Saturday and Sunday fixtures.

Having been a member all his life, Raj, nicknamed 'Reggie', became the club's premier spin bowler and bagged the best bowler gong at the club's recent end of season awards. He claimed six wickets the Saturday before his death, taking his tally to 116 for the season, just five short of equalling the club record.

He was buried at Northwood Cemetery and his closest friends are still coming to terms with their loss.

Northwood CC president Keith Knowles said: "Reggie was a great character and one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He was widely loved and will be very, very sorely missed."

A two minute silence was held before Northwood's game against Chorleywood last Saturday.
