RAIN defeated Parkfield and Headstone 1st XI on Saturday in their Herts League Division 5 home fixture with Knebworth Park, but the lower sides travelled north into Hertfordshire and achieved drawn games in Division 9 and 13.

Away to Offley and Stopsley, the second team had only nine fielders for the first 15 overs and there was little success for the bowlers as the home side progressed to 216 for four declared after 48 overs.

Parkfield and Headstone were reduced to 14 for three in their reply and, after skipper Nainesh Shah stopped the rot, good efforts from Tim Garnons-Williams (28) and Gerry Bloomfield (22) helped ensure the draw as they finished on 120 for eight.

Vic Mayers (3-18 off 12 overs) took the bowling honours for the third XI as Shenley made 182 for six.

PHCC struggled in their reply, and only Miren Shah (27) and Tushara Wijeratne (19) put useful runs on the board before Kamal Mistry and Sajan Voralia batted out the last eight overs to secure the draw on 112 for seven.
