Former Richmond Park MP, Zac Goldsmith, will try and mount a comeback as a Tory candidate, despite resigning from the party just months ago.

Following a failed bid to become Mayor of London, Mr Goldsmith quit the Conservative Party in protest at the government's approval of a third runway at Heathrow Airport, triggering a costly by-election and a shock defeat to the Liberal Democrats after running as an independent candidate.

But now, it is understood that Mr Goldsmith will try and win his seat back from Liberal Democrat , Sarah Olney, in the upcoming general election on June 8.

A spokesman for Richmond Conservatives denied knowledge of who was running as their candidate, but said: "We'll be making an announcement on Wednesday."

As rumours flew around of the former Tory MP's return, social media users offered a mixed reaction to the comeback, which coincided with an announcement that 80s pop group Bananarama were reuniting for a nationwide tour.

One Conservative Hillingdon Councillor, Dominic Gilham, reminisced on his time delivering milk with the Tory candidate.

ITV news presenter, Charlene White, dished out some facts and figures.
