Budding young dancers from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea shimmied their way to success during one of London’s biggest youth dance events.

Dance Showdown saw more than 210 young people compete and perform alongside established youth dance companies and guest artists such as Pineapple Performing Arts School, PDK, Crew 42 and Perspectrum.

The dancers taking part were competing for the opportunity to further develop their skills through classes and workshops with leading dance companies through scholarships and awards.

The event was organised by Epic CIC, which provides youth services for the council.

Big winners on the night included Bousfield Primary School, who won a master class with Impact Dance Academy for scooping the junior category award, and St Charles Sixth Form College, who won tickets to attend the English National Ballet’s Le Cosaire at the London Coliseum, for winning the senior category.

The Community Category Award went to Portobello Dance, which won a day at Pineapple Performing Arts School

Speaking about the event, which took place on June 26 at Cadogan Hall, Epic CIC’s managing director Brendan O’Keefe, said: “Dance Showdown is one of our biggest and most anticipated events, and with the talent we saw on it’s not difficult to see why.

“The talent and performances by all those involved was incredible. A huge congratulations to the winners and well done to all those who took part.”
