Anyone keen to check out west London's future boxing stars should look no further than the London Elite Finals in Harrow later this month.

The prestigious competition dates back to the mid 1800s and has previously showcased the talents of superstars Anthony Joshua, Nicola Adams and Frank Bruno.

Brent's 20-year-old prospect Maison Smith, who has already been selected for the Tokyo Olympic trials by Team GB, is hoping to add a London title to his list of achievements.

The event, at Harrow Leisure Centre on March 30, is being supported by Wembley-based charity Careys Foundation, which raises money to fund a range of charitable causes.

Managing director of the Carey Group, Denis Deacy said: “Careys Foundation is delighted to sponsor the London Elite Boxing Championship and be part of an event that is steeped in history.

“We wish all the competitors at Byron Hall the best of luck on the night.”

Maison Smith, from Kingsbury, is currently the southern area light welterweight champion and is keen to pick up the London title.

He said: “I've been training hard and I feel in good shape.

“I'm looking forward to the London Elites which I know I can win with the right preparation.”

West London has previously had big names in mixed martial arts, with Acton's Jimmy Wallhead making his UFC debut last year.

Brent councillor Zaffar Van Kalwala is also supporting the Harrow boxing event.

He said: “I'm delighted to be working with Careys Foundation and London Boxing to give our young people an opportunity to become the best in London and represent our great borough."

Tickets cost £15 for the night and the fights will start from 7pm.
