Harrow 's 11 war memorials were visited by the Mayor of Harrow on Friday, October 23 who laid wreaths to honour and remember the sacrifices made by men and women past and present in our armed forces.

The annual event, held in October each year ahead of Remembrance Sunday , raises the profile of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. It honours and remembers veterans as well as those who gave their lives to serve the nation.

Schoolchildren from West Lodge School assembled at Pinner Memorial park around the Dove of Peace in the Peace Garden, together with members of the United Services Club, HRMT, the Pinner Association and the public to watch the wreath laying ceremony.

Residents are invited to join the Mayor and other dignitaries at the Remembrance Sunday Parade and service on November 8 outside Harrow Civic Centre at 10.45am.

The parade will leave St Ann’s road at 10am to Harrow Civic Centre, led by the Glen Trew Pipe Band.

Mayor of Harrow, Councillor Krishna Suresh said: “Remembrance Sunday is a time for us all to remember the bravery, courage and sacrifices made by men and women in our armed forces.

“It is also a time to reflect upon and remember those who have been affected and caught up in conflict.

“Men and women in our armed forces have sacrificed and given up so much for all of the freedoms that we enjoy and take for granted today.

“We must honour and show our gratitude to veterans, current and ex-serving members of the armed forces for had they not fought for us, our lives would be very different.

“I would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to support the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and wear their poppy with pride.

"I look forward to seeing you all on Remembrance Sunday.”
