A woman ended up buying an £800,000 home after popping into an estate agents to donate a coat to charity.

The unnamed buyer visited Chestertons in Kensington to give her unwanted garment as part of the estate agent’s support for the Calling London Winter Coat Drive.

But she also ended up purchasing a two-bedroom garden flat in Kensington as an investment for her son.

She was one of thousands of people around the capital to pop into one of 33 property expert’s branches to donate coats.

They were collected in November and sorted earlier this month at St Mary Abbots Church Hall on Vicarage Gate in Kensington . The coats will be handed over to various shelters, charities, schools and food banks, to needy people such as homeless, the elderly, refugees and children.

A spokesperson for the company said purchaser of the £800,000 property, in Eardley Crescent, often popped into its High Street branch.

He said: “She came in specifically to drop off some coats and one of our agents started a conversation with her about the sales market.

"She mentioned that she was looking for investment opportunities and our agent knew we had some interesting properties on the books, so she booked a viewing for the next day and by the afternoon she had offered to buy the property.

“Through further negotiations, the deal was soon tied up and we are hoping to exchange before Christmas.”

The charity drive has also benefited from corporate support too, with the Marriott donating staff and lost property coats to the Notting Hill branch.

In total the Calling London Winter Coat Drive collected around 2,500 coats.
