October's unusually warm weather will soon be forgotten, with forecasters predicting cold winter spells for London.

Met Office experts have warned the uncharacteristically nice Halloween will be the last of the warm spells, with frost due to settle into the Capital this week.

Temperatures are set to plunge to 4C, with fog patches to appear most mornings before clearing up and making way for colder weather .

A Met Office spokesman said: "Clear spells this evening will allow temperatures to quickly fall after dark, and with light winds a frost will form in places, and the odd fog patch.

"On Thursday, any early mist or fog patches will quickly lift to leave a dry but cold day, with sunny spells."

Maximum temperatures will be 10C for London, with some rain making it's way towards the South towards the end of the week.

Meteorologists predicted the coldest winter in years for the country this year, with snow expected to form earlier than usual.

However, London has been subjected to weather stepping out of the ordinary patterns this year, with flash flooding in summer and snow in spring, catching commuters off guard .
