A brisk wind and south eastern showers which get heavier will dominate the week's weather, according to forecasters.

The Met Office have said maximum temperatures for Monday (February 29) will be eight degrees celsius plunging down to one degrees as the evening goes on.

However, the evening and Tuesday will bring drier conditions, although showers are still predicted along with largely cloudy conditions.

But Wednesday to Friday's outlook has been described by meteorologists as a "cold with scattered showers, these heavy at times."

Further showers are expected on Friday with temperatures plummeting to below average as the week goes on.

Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell said: “There is a bit of a change on the way this week as things turn a lot more unsettled as a cold front moves in.

“Temperatures on Wednesday will be back into single figures and by Friday we are looking at cold unstable air from the Arctic moving across the UK bringing more rain."

This month The Met Office said a sudden polar 'plunge' - the same phenomenon that triggered the 2010 Big Freeze - could strike again at the end of March, bringing Brits a white Easter.
