A college has said it takes the security of its staff "very seriously" after a student was stabbed outside a campus yesterday (Wednesday March 15).

The 19-year-old victim was knifed on the doorstep of the Willesden Campus of the College of North West London in Brent. which he attends, in Denzil Road off Dudden Hill Lane.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.41am on on Wednesday (March 15), and the young man was taken to hospital as priority.

A spokesman for the further education college, which specialises in vocational courses for students aged over 16, said: "The victim was taken to a central London hospital.

"His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"The police have confirmed that the injured person is a student of the college and we are providing every assistance we can to the police."

The spokesman said the college takes the security of students and staff "very seriously".

He said an ID card is needed to gain entry to the college and there is security staff on duty throughout the day.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We treated a teenager at the scene and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre."

An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the stabbing, Scotland Yard confirmed.

He has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and remains in custody at a north London police station.
