Former QPR football player Clarke Carlisle has been found safe after his family expressed concern for his welfare.

The 37-year-old's wife, Carrie, took to Twitter to say Clarke was missing after family members were unable to contact him.

According to a tweet, the former Queens Park Rangers FC was last known to be in Manchester City Centre at around 6am on Friday (September 15).

His wife Carrie announced the footballer was found safe the same day, later that night and thanked those who helped in the search for him.

The former defender has spoken of his issues with mental health, saying he had tried to take his own life while in his twenties, and then spending six weeks in a psychiatric unit after he was hit by a lorry in 2014.

He then launched a mental health charity called the Clarke Carlisle Foundation for Dual Diagnosis.

The father-of-three enjoyed a successful playing career, playing for a number of clubs including Leeds, Watford, Burnley and the Hoops.
