Prue Leith could be replacing Mary Berry as Paul Hollywood's co-presenter and judge on The Great British Bake Off .

Mary Berry quit the show last year, when bosses announced it was moving from BBC to Channel 4.

So, if she is to fill Mary's boots, we should probably tell you a little about who she is.

You may recognise her as a food critic on the BBC television programme The Great British Menu.

Could Prue be Mary's replacement?

Who is Prue Leith?

The 76-year-old restaurateur and food writer started as a cook at a firm of solicitors.

Born in South Africa, she attended school in Johannesburg until she was 17.

After moving to London, she founded her own cookery school, Leith's School of Food and Wine in 1974, training both professional chefs and amateur cooks.

Michelin star chefs including Joe Mercer Nairne and Matt Christmas are amongst the alumni.

Prue sold the school in the 1990s and set up a college in South Africa, she has since gone on to write cooking columns and a number of books.

The cookery school still operates in White City , under the same name.

For 11 years, she judged the BBC cookery show The Great British Menu before stepping down shortly after her friend Mary Berry announced her departure from The Great British Bake Off.

Prue was awarded an OBE in 1989, and a CBE in 2010.

On her website, Prue says: "I love cooking, the doing of it.

"And even though I've given up writing cookbooks in order to conserve my writing energies for novels, I still like experimenting and trying stuff and eating things I've never eaten before.

She also has an honorary doctorate from the University of West London, alongside celebrity chef, James Martin.
