2. Concorde Players are staging Hairspray from August 6-9, packed fuller than an aerosol can with great tunes. The show is on at Crane Lodge Road, Cranford at 7.30pm, plus a 2pm Saturday matinee. Costs are: Weds: child £5, adult £10; Thu–Sat: child £6, adult £12; or family of four £30.

3. Come mud larking on the Thames foreshore and see what you can find from small fish and eels to black-headed gulls and shrimp. Join Groundwork London’s conservation officer Netty Ribeaux, identifying the animals that live in and around the Thames. This is a free event suitable for children aged 5+. Wellies and waterproofs advised. Meet at the Ferry Steps, Bishop's Park, Fulham opposite the childrens playground from 10am-12noon.

4. Clay pottery in Harrow. Over three hours (from 12pm to 3pm on Thursday) children will learn pottery techniques and use a potter's wheel. They'll need an overall or apron and a packed lunch. The cost is £20 plus a charge - measured by weight - for the finished work.
