Chiswick residents are being invited to share their opinions about the future of a major recreation and sports centre which welcomes around a million visitors each year.

A public consultation process on Dukes Meadows began this week, with users and residents being encouraged to share their thoughts on proposed external and internal improvements.

The centre already boasts an array of formal and informal leisure and recreational facilities and is also home to allotments and playing fields.

Hounslow Council is now proposing a number of developments to the site including improved accessibility for visitors and an enhanced overall experience following an initial phase of consultation in autumn 2016.

This recently launched consultation process involves proposed improvements to the Thames path, including localised widening and increased access by installing a footbridge, as well as improving the current sporting facilities.

Councillor Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council, said "We had a very positive response about our vision for Dukes Meadows during the last consultation that took place between November 2016 and January 2017.

"During the past eight months we have been working on feasibility and detailed plans.

"Our plans will transform Dukes Meadows into a great place for everyone to enjoy.

"They will unlock the River Thames as one of our great assets for Hounslow and will encourage more people to participate in sport and physical activity."

Cllr Curran added: "I would encourage everyone to take part in this final planning stage and share with us their views on the future of this important asset for our borough.

"Our vision for Dukes Meadows is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve the site and protect the facilities for future generations.

"We look forward to sharing our proposals with the community and hearing their feedback."

How can I have my say?

Throughout the six-week consultation process, residents and users will be able to view and comment on the proposals via the council's website .

Residents are also invited to attend a consultation event where proposals will be on display and members of the project team will be on hand to answer any questions.

The event will take place on Tuesday October 31 at Chiswick Town Hall, Heathfield Terrace, Chiswick, W4 4JN, from 10am until 8.30pm.

The consultation will run until Monday November 27.
