New figures compiled by emergency services show the fire brigade was called to more fire-related incidents in Westminster than any other borough in the capital.

It was called out to 7,143 incidents in the borough, between March 2014 and February 2015, which it classed as “considerably worse than average”.

The boroughs with the next highest fire-related call-outs are Camden, way down on 4,771, and Southwark, on 4,401. Together they are the three boroughs in London classed as ‘high’.

The statistics, put together by London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan police, and show the London average for fire-related incidents between March 2014 and February 2015 as 2,874.

Westminster is the only borough in the area which falls into the ‘high’ category, with other boroughs in the west of London falling into ‘average’ or below categories.

Over the same time period, fire crews were called to 3,036 fire-related incidents in Kensington & Chelsea, 2,997 in Hillingdon, and 2,937 in Ealing (all average).

Both Brent, with its 2,666 fire-related call-outs, and Hammersmith & Fulham with 2,650 were classed as ‘better than average’, while Hounslow (2,337) and Harrow (1,697) fell into the ‘low’ category.
