Put a note in your diary - the new Westfield expansion will open to shoppers on March 20.

The news was revealed by John Lewis, which will also throw open the doors of its new flagship branch at the shopping centre on the same day.

Westfield has yet to confirm the date, saying only that the extension will open sometime in March.

The retail giants also announced it is embarking on a major recruitment drive, with the massive 230,000 sq ft store set to employ 600 people.

Successful applicants will become partners and co-owners of the business under the retailer’s unique partnership structure.

It is looking for partners to fill full-time and part-time positions within the shop, from selling and service partners, to visual merchandisers to customer support partners.

The store costs £33 million to build and is part of the exiting in £600m expansion at Westfield London, which will make it the biggest shopping centre in Europe.

Partners will also receive a host of benefits including an annual bonus, access to holiday and leisure facilities, and opportunities to build skills outside of work.

Ruth Scharvona, who will be the John Lewis branch manager at Westfield London, said: “Having been in the partnership for 30 years and joined as an A level trainee at Peter Jones, I have benefited from the investment that the business makes in its partners and the career opportunities that it offers.

"Our aim is to recruit partners who will act as true ambassadors for our brand and who can bring to life our very special customer service offer.
