Hospital food may not have the best reputation but things are looking up for patients in west London, it would appear.

West Middlesex Hospital has won an award for its new menus featuring fresh, locally sourced food.

The hospital, in Twickenham Road, Isleworth , has been awarded the Soil Association's Food for Life Catering Mark Bronze Award.

That title may be a bit of a mouthful but in short it is reserved for caterers using fresh sustainable ingredients which are free from harmful additives and better for animal welfare.

West Mid said staff at its Rumbles Restaurant had worked with suppliers to source fresh produce and were now preparing meals from scratch on site, as part of a national initiative by catering provider ISS Facilities Services Healthcare.

The hospital's catering manager Tom Dolphin said: "The Catering Mark means our visitors have access to nutritious food – food we know far more about in terms of where it is sourced, and we are sharing this with our customers.

"We have increased the amount of local food on offer in Rumbles Restaurant which is going down well with visitors and staff alike."
