MPs across west London voiced their grave concerns on London's housing crisis, claiming "starter homes are a non-starter for the city's residents".

Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq slammed the Tory party as the House of Commons debated the issue in Parliament on Wednesday and said affordable homes are out of reach for her constituents.

In a speech to the House, she said: "Our capital city is being hollowed out, as we pay ever more for housing yet become ever more insecure at the same time. "

The Labour MP was also quick to point out that the average earning for those living in Ealing was £34,500, but buying a one bedroom starter home in W13 would mean their earnings would need to be a whopping £73,142.

MP for Hammersmith Andy Slaughter added: "Local people cannot afford to buy these houses.

"They are bought by foreign investors from United Arab Emirates, Malaysia or wherever and are either left empty or rented out, which is why the private sector has gone up from 30% to 40%, but all properties are unaffordable."

Opposition MP's have said housing is in the top four priorities for the government and new initiatives to meet the demand needed for housing are welcome.
