Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital have officially joined forces to become one NHS Foundation Trust.
Long-serving hospital staff were joined by new management to celebrate day one of the new organisation at the hospital grounds in Isleworth, on Tuesday (September 1).
The event marked the end of three years of work and planning as the acquisition was completed.
Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust chairman Sir Thomas Hughes-Hallett said: "I am delighted that the many years of hard work in planning this day have finally come to fruition.
"We have been working together will colleagues from West Middlesex University Hospital for the past three years to ensure everything about this partnership is right and I am confident that this change will provide the best possible healthcare that our combined communities both need and deserve.
"With an eye to the future, clinicians at both hospitals have been working closely over the last two years to use this opportunity to grow and develop new and better ways of providing healthcare services.
"We believe that by joining forces, using expertise from all our sites, we can provide each patient that comes through any of our services with world leading patient care, delivered locally."
The process began in 2012 when West Middlesex chose Chelsea & Westminster as a partner to become part of a foundation trust organisation.
Trust chief executive Libby McManus added: “Although it’s very much business as usual for patients and staff, this is a momentous day in the history of both our hospitals as we enter a new era as a bigger better foundation trust.
"This integration will make us an organisation where more and more opportunities will attract the best of staff from our local populations, the NHS and beyond.”
