A cyclist has been left with "serious injuries" after a collision involving a lorry at the junction of Northfield Avenue and The Broadway in West Ealing.

The cyclist was airlifted to hospital by air ambulance crews at around 1.34pm on Thursday (October 12) after the collision, which happened 1,000ft from West Ealing railway station.

As of 2.54pm, the A4020 Uxbridge Road in both directions is currently closed, with the junction completely closed due to the accident.

Police confirmed the lorry driver stopped at the scene.

Roads have now reopened

Traffic monitoring reports now say that the A4020 Uxbridge Road in both directions has re-opened as of 7.07pm.

Traffic is easing.

The Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating and emergency services remain on the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help with their investigation.

Condition described as 'critical'

The Metropolitan Police has now confirmed the female cyclist’s condition is critical.

An updated statement from the force said:

“At around 13:35hrs on Thursday, 12 October, officers came upon the scene of a collision involving a lorry and a cyclist on The Broadway at the junction with Northfield Avenue, Ealing.


“The female cyclist was taken to an east London hospital. Her condition is described as critical at this stage.


“The lorry involved stopped at the scene.


“No arrests; enquiries continue.”

The victim suffered “serious injuries” and was treated for pelvic and leg injuries at the scene.

Road closures mean that traffic is severely disrupted in the area.

London Ambulance Service statement

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service has confirmed they treated a female cyclist at the scene.

She was treated for “pelvic and leg injuries” and was taken to an east London hospital.

The spokesman told getwestlondon:

“We were called today at 1.31pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Uxbridge Road.


“We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and an advanced paramedic to the scene, with the first of our medics arriving in seven minutes.


“London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the scene.


“We treated a female patient at the scene for pelvic and leg injuries and she was taken to hospital by London’s Air Ambulance.”

'Bicycle mangled up'

A witness at the scene spoke to getwestlondon about the accident this afternoon.

Wayne Hoeftmann recalls seeing the cyclist’s bike after the collision with a lorry.

Unconfirmed reports now suggest it is a female victim who suffered “serious injuries”.

“The paramedics [were] working very hard to stabilise her.


I didn’t want to get in the way so I moved off.”

Met Police statement

The incident happened at around 1.34pm, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The cyclist was rushed to hospital with “serious leg injuries”, a spokesman for the force confirmed.

“A cyclist was involved in a collision with a lorry in Northfield Avenue, at the junction with The Broadway.


“Road closures are in place while emergency services deal with the incident.


“A helicopter air ambulance attended and took the cyclist to hospital with serious leg injuries.


“There have been no arrests and the lorry driver stopped at the scene.”

Cyclist hospitalised after collision

A cyclist has been airlifted to hospital with “serious injuries” after an accident in West Ealing this afternoon.

A lorry collided with the cyclist at B452 Drayton Green Road, at the junction with the A4020 Uxbridge Road, Northfield Avenue and The Broadway.

The junction has been completely closed and emergency services are on the scene, 1000ft from West Ealing Station.
