Sunglasses and flip flops at the ready, this weekend is going to be a warm one.

The mercury is set to hit a scorching 21°C on both Saturday and Sunday with sunshine throughout the weekend as west London is set to be as hot as Athens.

The Met Office forecast for London and south east England on Saturday April 8 says: "Starting chilly on Saturday, with a chance of early mist and fog, but remaining dry with sunny spells developing.

"Warm by the afternoon and winds staying light."

The sunshine continues into Sunday as the Met Office forecast says: "Some early mist and fog on Sunday then sunny and very warm."

In London, the lowest temperature we will see is 8°C overnight on Saturday.

What to do this weekend

So with clear skies and warm temperatures remaining with us into the weekend, it is certainly time to get outdoors.

Ruislip Lido

You could take the family out for a picnic in one of west London's parks, there are plenty to choose from including the beautiful Richmond Park, the peaceful Ruislip Woods and Lido , or you could venture into Holland Park in West Kensington where you can explore the beautiful Kyoto Garden.

Unless you have been hiding under a rock over the past few weeks you will know that this weekend is Grand National weekend.

Take them to the newly re-opened Hanwell Zoo where as a family you can enjoy a range of wildlife from meerkats to lemurs to flamingos.

Entry costs £2.50 for adults and £1 for children over three.

Children under three are allowed into the zoo free-of-charge.
