Heavy air pollution alerts will remain in place over the weekend after Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan raised the alarm on Thursday (January 19).

Westminster is on "high" alert along with other west London boroughs including Hammersmith and Fulham , Kensington , Hounslow and Chelsea .

Temperatures will plummet overnight this weekend, but it will be sunny and dry in London.

For tonight, Friday January 20, the Met Office forecast for London and the south east England says: "Mostly clear and cold with winds remaining light and a widespread frost.

"Areas of mist and freezing fog will develop in places."

Temperatures will plummet to -1°C overnight, so motorists should take care on the roads.

Cloud will gradually arrive through the afternoon although it will remain dry.

Temperatures in the capital will only reach highs of around 4°C however, so if you are heading outside to enjoy the sunny and dry weather over the weekend, make sure you wear an extra layer and don't leave without your hat and gloves.

Sunday, January 22 is looking similar, although there will be some patchy cloud around, still feeling very cold though with highs of just 5°C, dropping to -1°C overnight.
